LTR
Company Introduction
LTR Training Systems Inc. was created in 1986 by Brian Horner,
a U.S. Military Survival instructor, to prepare industrial
workers and military personnel for Alaska's arduous work environment.
Since that time it has grown to offer programs internationally
to conduct their own research into the limits of human endurance,
and the training needed to survive. LTR Training Systems now
instructs over 2,000 students a year and operates its base
training facility in Anchorage, Alaska. In conjunction with
their training offices, LTR maintains snow mobiles, ATV's,
river rafts and aircraft crash simulators to support their
programs. They have maintained a 20 year relationship with
the U.S. Bureau of Land Management to use state and federal
lands for their field programs. LTR also owns 80 acres of
wilderness area in Alaska, with their own lake, for extended
field experience programs.
LTR Accomplishments and Services
Law Enforcement and Military Programs
Aviation and Tactical survival
programs for the U.S. Army, DEA, the U.S. Customs Service, U.S.
Marshals and the U.S. Border Patrol. Tactical programs include
simulated conflict scenarios using blank firing weapons and
explosions. classroom
and field training programs in Oil field safety, worker protective
clothing, vehicle breakdown, remote medicine, helicopter off-shore
survival and BOSET training taught to OPITO standards. These
programs have been presented in China, Japan, Russia, Turkey,
Sweden, The Georgia Republic and Mexico Educational programs
for business', municipalities and community support groups on
disaster preparedness, terrorism, evacuation control from high-rose
buildings, fire fighting, victim extrication and disaster medicine.
LTR makes use of its experience with the movie industry to simulate
large scale disasters with artificial smoke generators, sound
effects, role playing actors and even search dogs.
Marine life support training conducted
both in pools, and in open water, that deal with cold water
survival. These programs provide real world hands-on experience
with wind, waves, current and exposure clothing to prepare workers
for oil spill response, vessel sinking's, helicopter crashes
and commercial fishing. For the past 12 years LTR has conducted
this training in the brutal conditions of the Beaufort Sea,
on the the North Alaska Coast. Formal
training programs in bear biology, behavior and avoidance for
researchers, seismic teams and geologists. This program trains
personnel to safely handle and fire weapons in defense of life
and property. Students are trained on "Tactical" shooting
and reloading techniques while firing at LTR's moving, charging,
bear target systems. A full
range of CPR and First Aid programs for your industry personnel
that meet your OSHA requirements, without being boring and ineffective.
Our true expertise is in medical programs for workers that prepare
them for "delayed care" scenarios. Students receive
education above basic first aid in wound cleaning, putting dislocations
"back in", realigning fractures, dealing with spinal
injuries and thawing frostbite. LTR
programs can also meet your OSHA regulatory requirements for
competent tower climbers and teaching your workers to climb
safely.. at any height. Our rope rescue programs are based on
years of experience, on multiple terrain with only the best
in life-safety equipment. LTR
Training Systems are the U.S. experts in cold weather survival.
Nobody instructs in colder environments and nobody can give
your personnel the experience that LTR has working in the cold.
From their yearly programs on the polar ice cap, expeditions
to Antarctica and glacier rescue courses, LTR can help you adapt.
Our record includes field training programs conducted at 50
degrees below zero! Our impeccable safety
record is the model for combining experience and realism in
education. With a combination of risk management and attention
to detail we protect our students in some of the worst conditions.
We are
proud to have a long working relationship with the lead life
support equipment companies in the U.S. These companies include:
• Mustang Survival
• Sterns Manufacturing
• The SEABERG Corporation
• Stroth Restraints
• Switlik Parachute Co.
These groups support LTR with equipment, technical expertise
and their professional services.
